Martin Sutton is a seasoned adviser. He spent 14 years with the drugs company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) over the time that it evolved from being Glaxo to GlaxoWellcome and then GSK, heading its financial and corporate media relations team. Since 2004, he has consulted for a number of organisations, including the Indian drugs company, Ranbaxy, the UK's Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, and a number of AIM-quoted companies across a variety of sectors. Prior to working with GSK, he held senior public relations positions with Esso, Dow Chemical and Coca-Cola.
Transaction Experience:
Glaxo's hostile £9 billion takeover of Wellcome and GlaxoWellcome's £110 billion merger with SmithKlineBeecham to form GSK. Numerous contractual partnerships with biotech companies.
Crisis/Issues Management:
Three Panorama TV programmes which scrutinised the company's anti-depressant, Seroxat; the provision of HIV drugs for the developing world; remuneration and corporate governance; manufacturing incidents at Esso oil refinery and Dow Chemical's Portugese plastics production plant; anti Coca-Cola campaign following the decision to award 1996 Olympics to Atlanta rather than Athens.
